  PICNICKING AT THE BOWL

In 1952, at the backing of Dorothy Buffum Chandler, picnics in the boxes and bench seat areas went from being “not allowed,” to encouraged, even including contests for best decorated picnic baskets. This decision firmly established the Bowl as a more casual, festive venue. Over the years, picnicking has become an integral part of the Bowl experience. People arrive hours before the concert to relax in the beautiful environs of the Bowl and eat a picnic dinner with their friends and family, and for those who enjoy wine, share a special bottle with their guests and neighboring Bowl concertgoers. Dinners range from McDonald’s hamburgers or Kentucky Fried Chicken to homemade dinners to catered dinners served in your box seat.

For those not purchasing Pool, Garden and Terrace Box Seats, there are fourteen picnic areas in the Bowl environs which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Click here to see map. Event volunteers will meet arriving concert-goers and direct those who wish to eat in picnic areas to available spaces.
